Brief We are often trying to look at putting space into our drawings but today is about bringing our drawings in to space. Go raid your recycling bin and grab some scissors as we are going to draw and build models at the same time.   Looking at the small sculptures by Jockum Nordstrum and Picasso we will try to see how our drawings can exist in space.   Aims To extend our understanding of 3D space To look at how to draw in a format other than 2D To continue to develop our skills of observation Picasso Manet painting that picasso based some of the following on Jockum Nordstrum Anne Ryan  Danny Romeril Instagram

Life Drawing 08 - Imagined angles

Brief Today is the last life drawing class of 2020 and it will be the most free of the year. Bring with you anything you want to try.  If you want to repeat something we have done earlier in the year then this is the best time - be that clay, tone, collage, expanding drawings, colour - paint or dry media. I will advise you with what ever you want to try. I know that there are a lot of deadlines coming up and understand some of you may not be able to make it but remember that doing half a day of drawing will improve your concentration and help with all your other work. If you cannot make it please de-register or let me know so others can come.  The class is useful for all levels of ability.   Required materials and tools EVERYTHING/ANYTHING - Drawing materials, charcoal, graphite, ink, pastels, paint, scissors and glue – anything else you might want to try.

Life Drawing 07 - Composition

Brief Composition Alan Watts on Ma Yuan landscape paintings –   “One of the most striking features of the sung landscape, as of sung as a whole, is the relative emptiness of the picture, an emptiness which appears however, to be part of the painting and not just unpainted background. By filling in just one corner the artist makes the whole area of the picture alive. Ma Yuan was a master of this technique that amounts almost to painting by not painting” Today we are looking at composition as the central idea in our drawings. We will look at what makes an interesting composition and how we can plan this before the drawing starts.  The class is useful for all levels of ability.   As usual we will start with guided warm ups and the basic ideas but the rest of the class will be free for you to explore as you wish, you can explore something from a previous class or follow instruction. Required materials and tools Drawing materials, charcoal, graphite, ink, pastels – anything else you might
